Normal Intestine Tissues
The intestine is normally gray to pink in color. It may have a darker pink appearance like the photos below. None of it should be grossly distended or dark red to black in color. Both the inner and the outer surfaces should be smooth. The inner surface may have a yellow gelatinous film covering it , but this should wash off easily (the last photo on the right). The photo next to this one is of lymph tissue called a Peyer's Patch. These are found throughout the intestine and are normal findings. Make note if these look black and dead (necrotic), this is a sign of certain diseases. | |
